The Mother Truckers - Let's All Go To Bed (2008)

The Mother Truckers are back with their third CD, Let's All Go To Bed . The thirteen song set offers us a heavy dose of rock n' roll that often makes you forget The Truckers have frequently been described as a country-rock band. Even the quartet's official web site doesn't believe they are a country band because it brands them as "a kick-ass rock 'n' roll band from Austin, Texas." As their high octane music moves further and further away from country with each succeeding release they sound tighter and more alive than ever before. Teal Collins excellent, full throttle vocals wail, Josh Zee's electric lead guitar scorches, and the new rhythm section of drummer Dan Thompson and bassist Danny G. provides a backbeat that would make any rock band proud. Call them whatever you want: rock, country, or Americana. Fans of all those genres will find something to love on this excellent collection. One of the new CD's strongest tunes, "Streets...

The Mother Truckers - Broke Not Broken (2007)

The Mother Truckers took five years to record a followup to their debut CD, Something Worth Dying For , and that is a very long time between releases for any band trying to hit the big time. I don't know The Truckers back story so I have no idea why there was such a long wait before their sophomore effort, Broke Not Broken , saw the light of day. Gone are the small unedited musical snippets and patter between tracks that gave Something Worth Dying For a looser feel. The new disc is more meticulously produced than their debut and the tighter arrangements make it a more mature set of songs. The band's website describes The Mother Truckers as "a kick-ass rock 'n' roll band" but there are still enough pedal steels and dobros in their music, as well as a ...

The Mother Truckers - Something Worth Dying For (2002)

The Mother Truckers is a perfect moniker for this Austin based bar band. Their name screams to the world that they are both a country band and an irreverent bunch. Their loud country music often crosses the border into rock 'n roll especially when lead guitarist Josh Zee lets loose with one of his wailing solos on almost every song. During their October 26th show at Austin's Continental Club I immediately realized this was no ordinary bar band. Zee has been voted the city’s best electric guitarist, Teal Collins was recognized as Austin’s best female voice, and the quartet was honored as "Best Roots Rock Band" at the most recent Austin Music Awards. Their lively gig, in which Collins was the most dynamic personality, enticed me to purchase their 2002 debut CD immediately after their show. Something Worth Dying For is a party in your own home. The sentiments expressed in their often humorous lyrics are far removed from anything...
