The 3 Stooges Sing 6 Happy Yuletide Songs (1959)

Before 2024 I only wrote about one other comedy Christmas record, I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas by Yogi Yorgeson, but this year I seem to have overdosed on novelty tunes more than a little bit. Perhaps it's because I believe we all need a little more lighthearted fare than usual this holiday season.

The 3 Stooges Sing 6 Happy Yuletide Songs is one of my favorite, childhood, Christmas memories. At the time, I thought the Golden Records' 45 RPM was the funniest thing I ever heard. It offers six very short songs and comedy bits featuring Larry, Moe and Curly Joe, the last of three replacements for the original Curly.

My mother was one of those concerned parents who disliked the The Stooges short, often violent films, but she let me watch them anyway because she understood I wasn't going to torture helpless puppies and kittens when I grew up.

There isn't much to say about the record except that it's exactly what you'd expect from the comedy team. The songs are all quite silly, and you'll easily hear sound effects representing the often brutal, slapstick punishments Moe normally inflicted on the other two.

As I got older I came to appreciate The Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy more than the Stooges when it came to old time Hollywood comedians, but the pleasant memories associated with this record will never leave me.

"Wreck the Halls With Boughs Of Holly" was always my favorite, possibly because it was the dumbest of the six tracks. Be sure to crank up the volume to hear it properly.

Side A
All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas
I Gotta Cold For Christmas

Side B
Wreck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly
Jingle Bells Drag
Down Through The Housetop

  1. The first time I heard this I thought it was real. Turns out it's Billy West. But it still cracks me up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iWLRyc-ing
