WXPN's 885 Greatest Songs from Movies & TV
Bloggerhythms has closely followed and often participated in radio station
WXPN's annual 885 countdowns they present every fall.
After years of counting down the usual fare of best songs, albums and artists
the non-commercial station at 88.5 FM - licensed to Philadelphia's University of
Pennsylvania - decided to go rogue with some unique lists.
Recent years have featured the 885 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century. I don't remember what came in at #1, but John Mayer had more songs on the list than anyone else. Two years ago we all voted for the 885 Greatest Songs By Women.
This
year the station offers listeners a very good countdown. Currently, they can vote for their ten favorite songs that appeared in
movies or on television. Your selections don't have to be theme songs, they
just have to be tunes that were aired on any TV show or featured in any film.
They can be from concerts, documentaries, musicals, dramas, comedies, variety shows or any
other genre. Hey, maybe Philadelphians will even vote for their beloved Action News theme song.
Your votes are weighted, meaning your #1 choice receives ten points, your #2
will earn nine points and so on down the ballot. Voting is happening now and
ends October 29, 2026. Participants can find the ballot
here.
I'll be listening again this year and as usual, voting for my ten favorites. All of them will
be discussed on Bloggerhythms between now and the beginning of the on-air countdown that
begins on December 3rd with #885. Stay tuned.
Four of my ten picks are from television shows, the rest are from movies. Not all of them are theme songs. In the meantime, here are a couple of good ones that didn't quite make my top ten. Both are from TV.
