Lexxi Raine – The Grief Case (2025)
Lexxi Raine is a young, talented, pop-rock, singer-songwriter originally from Buffalo, NY who now resides in Manchester, England.
Raine is currently engaged to a man who proposed to her even though he's aware
the love of his life wrote an entire EP about the breakup of an earlier
relationship that includes a song about murdering her ex-boyfriend. Despite that, she
promised the entire staff here at Bloggerhythms (me) that the ex is perfectly
fine and he doesn't have to worry about taking his last breath any time soon.
Here's how Raine describes her recently released EP, The Grief Case,
on her
Bandcamp
page: "Grieving the end of a relationship is messy and never a straight line.
Some days you’re angry, other days you’re numb, and sometimes you still
convince yourself he’s coming back. My new EP, The Grief Case, lives
inside that turbulence. Each song is its own chapter in the 6 stages of
grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Murder, and Acceptance. Yep,
you read that right. Murder. Because sometimes the only way to get over
him... is to end him."
Raine plays fast and loose with the Six Stages of Grief. She adds Murder as #5,
moves Acceptance to #6 and eliminates Finding Meaning entirely. Each of
the songs has its own title with one of the stages functioning as a
subtitle.
The budding star is quite the lyricist. On "Gone for Good (Murder)" she
sings: "You are in my view. I'm lurking and tracking down your every move. And fury, won't hurry. Hate festers, the worst of you will be gone soon. Bones are bound to break and muscles atrophy in time. Your knife was figurative, but mine is real. And now's the perfect crime. I got you all alone. No, don't be scared, this won't take long. Will they miss your narcissism? Probably not. They'll all move on. You wanna know my favorite part was watching you go down
6 feet underground."
Raine did all of the singing, played guitar and wrote all of the lyrics. Her producer, Emma Connor, provided everything else. Musically, The Grief Case is a thoroughly enjoyable, unique and modern musical experience. Most of the instruments are real. The drums aren't, but they sure sound like they are, and that always goes a long way with me.
The album cover keeps up with the theme and is entertaining on its own.
