See what I miss when I neglect to check out this site for a couple of weeks?

I had my own long-lost visit with this album recently and I have to say it's lost some of its luster with me, too. The overall sound of it is fantastic, but many of the songs themselves are lacking. George's lone contribution is an inferior iteration of Revolver's "Love You To". Too much of the album is loaded down with novelty type tunes like "When I'm 64", "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite", both versions of the title song and the like. When Lennon and McCartney are serious, like "A Day In The Life" or "With A Little Help From My Friends", it's pure magic. But the magic only runs through about half the album, whereas it was completely there for the previous two releases.

But there's no denying the album's vast influence.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12331855.post-8193108635457728482007-03-14T01:24:00.000-04:002007-03-14T01:24:00.000-04:00With the music marketing landscape so changed and ...With the music marketing landscape so changed and so fragmented now as compared to 40 years ago, it's hard to imagine any album so totally defining an era or even a summer for a mass audience the way that Sgt. Part of the power of Sgt Peppers reprise -> A Day in the Life is the context.
Don't under estimate Rubber Soul though.
